Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the competencies of the Community-Based Monitoring Group (Kelompok Monitoring Berbasis Masyarakat/KMBM) in diving, coral reef monitoring, and coral reef restoration in Pulau Bapa Village, Morowali Regency. Ten KMBM participants attended the core technical training. Evaluators conducted pre- and post-test assessments covering technical knowledge and diving safety indicators, complemented by observations of practical skills. The training materials included basic SCUBA diving, buoyancy control, the buddy system, underwater communication, coral reef monitoring, documentation, coral transplantation, and maintenance of restoration sites. Recapitalized pre-test and post-test scores showed an average score of 56.1 in the pre-test and 84.6 in the post-test, representing a 50.8% improvement. The program also established a KMBM organizational structure with 10 core members, monitoring activities on artificial reefs, a color-coded monitoring table, and initiatives for marine patrols and environmental education. The results demonstrate improvements in both technical and institutional capacities, although continued mentoring and assistance remain necessary.
