Al-Hakam: Policy on Generative AI & AI-Assisted Technologies
Al-Hakam: Journal of Islamic Law is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity, transparency, and ethical publishing. This policy outlines the acceptable use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in submitted manuscripts for authors, reviewers, and editors.
Key Principles & Guidelines
Please review the core requirements regarding AI usage before submitting your manuscript:
AI tools, language models (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude), or automated software do not meet authorship criteria. They cannot take legal, ethical, or intellectual responsibility for the content, accuracy, or integrity of the research work.
Authors may use AI solely for improving language clarity, readability, grammar checking, or formatting. However, AI should not be used to generate core scientific ideas, analyze legal data, draw primary conclusions, or produce fabricated citations.
If AI tools were used in writing or editing the manuscript, authors must explicitly disclose this in an "AI Statement" or within the "Acknowledgements" section, specifying the tool used and the nature/purpose of its application.
Reviewers and editors must not upload submitted manuscripts, peer review reports, or confidential editorial correspondence into public or unverified AI platforms, as this violates confidentiality and copyright agreements.
Sample AI Disclosure Statement:
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [Name of Tool/Service] in order to [reason, e.g., improve readability and grammar]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take full responsibility for the contents of the published article."
